Bird Woman Part I and II

The diptych Bird Woman Part I and II originated in my subconscious, melding the artistic process with echoes of personal trauma in its rawness and nervous quality. This archetype appears in mythology, art, and literature, including such depictions as a harpy, Siren, valkyrie, or angel. For me, the colours and content represent the positive and negative in us and our circumstances. I deconstruct the image to its separate elements (wings, feathers, eggs, skeleton) and rearrange them, erasing and building simultaneously, a process of renewal. Joan Miro, Arshile Gorky, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, and Paul Klee influence this work.

Do you see the woman?

Hibiscus at Christmas

For some of us, Christmas is a time to buy gifts, eat scrumptious food and spend time with friends and family. But for others, Christmas isn't so merry. For the patients and staff on the Older Adult ward at Willow Pavilion at Vancouver General Hospital, I hope I can spread some happiness and joy by donating this painting to their dining hall.
