The diptych Bird Woman Part I and II originated in my subconscious, melding the artistic process with echoes of personal trauma in its rawness and nervous quality. This archetype appears in mythology, art, and literature, including such depictions as a harpy, Siren, valkyrie, or angel. For me, the colours and content represent the positive and negative in us and our circumstances. I deconstruct the image to its separate elements (wings, feathers, eggs, skeleton) and rearrange them, erasing and building simultaneously, a process of renewal. Joan Miro, Arshile Gorky, Wassily Kandinsky, Pablo Picasso, Marcel Duchamp, and Paul Klee influence this work.
